The Team

Ted Daniels is a Trustee and the Project Lead for 231 Stuart Street. He has guided the proposal from its inception. He is working closely with his daughter Nina, who is developing the technical drawings, testing and resolving layout and accessibility issues, producing concept images, and contributing to the feasibility and design development of the project. Over the past two decades, Ted has successfully led the restoration and adaptive reuse of several significant Dunedin heritage buildings, including Bracken Court, the Standard Building and Victoria Chambers. These complex projects involved heritage restoration, structural strengthening and commercial redevelopment, transforming buildings once considered beyond repair into thriving, fully occupied buildings. His experience includes planning, budgeting, consultant coordination and overseeing construction through to completion.

Ted has lived in Dunedin since 1980 and is committed to preserving the city’s heritage while ensuring historic buildings remain viable and actively used. Having grown up in Rotterdam and lived in historic European cities before immigrating to New Zealand, he developed a strong appreciation of the contribution heritage buildings make to a city’s identity and vitality. Through the 231 Stuart Street project, Ted and Nina are committed to creating a sustainable, community-owned performing arts venue while preserving one of Dunedin’s significant heritage buildings for future generations.
